We who live in Los Angeles continue to fight against this crazy 100F heat without knowing when is this going to end. But thousand miles away in Japan, the weather is just right.

I have always been a city girl– from Shanghai to Los Angeles my entire life, it sometimes gets overwhelming. In September 2019, a spontaneous trip to Japan happened.

Destination: Nagoya

Nagoya is a developed, secondary city in Japan that has less population. With its longstanding history, many historical structures remained till today for us to explore and show respects.

As we entered Atsuta Shrine , the peaceful air, the quiet prayers, and the nature magically cleansed my mind, leaving me open to embrace this lightened moment.

As we prayed for God’s protection for health and a better future, we ended our trip at Atsuta Shrine with a yummy black sesame soft serve ice-cream. It’s interesting how we always end tours with some local food, which I think usually levels the local experiences.

Destination: Toba

Animals are our best friends, so do the ones at Toba aquarium!

The aquarium is not huge in size, but they have the largest varieties in Japan. The hourly live show let us closely interact with the animals. How lovely they are!

Besides the aquarium, the city Toba is also famous for the Mikimoto Museum on Mikimoto Island that is walking distance from the aquarium.

Mikimoto is a world-famous brand for pearls. After making a great fortune, Mr. Mikimoto bought this island in Toba and built the museum for visitors to experience the process of raising clams and taking pearls.

One unique scene we got to see was the “sea ladies” picking up clams from the bottom of the ocean. It was cold and raining but they jumped into the water without hesitation, and skillfully grabbed the clams for pearls.
